From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of heroes, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, demons, and dark forces increasing in strength within the urban setting.
Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season are included.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
Episode 3 ended with a huge suspense moment and presented the first table of characters who will branch out from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table consists of Teor (played by Travis), Thimble (Laura), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Given a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
This explains, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three separate parties: Fighters, Strategists, and Seekers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
As described by the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for players who enjoy a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are scarce.
Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might appear mismatched, but the actions of episode 3 make it clear why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
First, the group understands precisely where to proceed after a intense opening clash with the enemy group.
Casimir of the deceased character—whose passing started the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, entering the secret base, attacking the rogue, and taking all the powerful objects to auction.
Casimir then paid off his debts and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Moreover, each adventurer has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as the companion and best friend, wants retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure knows Timmony and warns that it is a nasty location.
- The warrior and The cleric, having disobeyed his house’s orders to execute the target and instead saved him, have no other options.
- However, their reputation as important members in the influential clan could help the party reach areas they normally couldn’t.
- Moreover, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to The savior for his rescue and will now follow him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Finally, all of them are hunted by the authorities that govern the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind too risky:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
- The warrior and Wicander betrayed the powerful family and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
- Teor is wanted dead by the clan.
This leaves them little choice but to head to the remote area in quest for Casimir.
What’s Next?
According to episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the rest of the cast members to form the Explorers and Schemers parties.
Viewers can look forward to learning which players will be where in the story’s last Overture episode, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
